Episode 39 – Lebanese emigration

For generations Lebanese citizens have emigrated across the world to seek better business or job opportunities, higher education, and safety from conflict. Large Lebanese communities can found in North and South America, Europe, West Africa, Australia, and the Arabian Gulf. Almost every household in Lebanon has relatives who live abroad. In this episode, Dareen tells us about the history of Lebanese emigration.

Tell me, tell me … about my country, tell me

Oh passing breeze through trees in front of me

A tale about my parents, a tale about my home

And a long tale about the childhood neighbor

Hello. I am Dareen. I wanted to start with the stanza that Fairuz had sang for migrants. In today’s episode, we are going to talk about us, the Lebanese who live permanently outside the Lebanese territories. We call them migrants or expatriates.

Marhaba! ("Hi"!)
