Episode 43 – Colloquial Lebanese words

Lebanese use lots of words that are distinct from Modern Standard Arabic and other Arabic dialects. Spoken Lebanese Arabic developed and continues to evolve due to the diverse cultural and linguistics communities within the country, interactions with the broader world, and the natural evolution of colloquial speech as new words enter the lexicon and old words becomes less relevant. In this episode, Leen explores common Lebanese words. She explains their meaning and describes how and when to use them. So if you want to sound like a native, you’ve come to the right place 🙂

Hello, and welcome to a new episode of Language Wave. I am Leen, and today our topic will be about Lebanese words and expressions that are said in the Lebanese dialect to express a situation, a person, a thing, or a certain feeling. Despite that the Lebanese dialect is derived from the formal Arabic language (Fos-ha), but with time and generations passing many words were amended in writing, pronunciation, and the occasion on which the word is used. Also, new words have appeared that were not used before. Lebanese generation after Lebanese generation, new words emerge, which are derived from the lifestyle.
